Glen Sather stepped down as general manager of the Rangers Wednesday, and assistant G.M. Jeff Gorton was promoted to the general manager job. Sather had been both president and G.M. since 2000, and will stay on as president of the team.
Gorton had been rumored to be a candidate for numerous G.M. openings at other NHL clubs, but the Rangers reportedly denied a number of teams the chance to interview Gorton.
The Rangers also promoted Jim Schoenfeld to senior vice president; Schoenfeld will remain G.H. of the team’s AHL affiliate in Hartford
