Craig Anderson made 35 saves as the Senators shut out a rather listless Rangers team, 3-0, in a Sunday afternoon matinee game in Ottawa. It was Anderson’s 3rd shutout of the season. The win snapped the Blueshirts’ two-game winning streak, and the team was shut out for the 4th time this season.
The two teams played scoreless hockey for most of the first two periods. Then, with :20 remaining in the 2nd period, Bobby Ryan poked a loose puck past Henrik Lundqvist and into the net for a 1-0 lead.
In the 3rd period, Mike Anderson scored his team-leading 22nd goal of the season just 2:40 into the period to make it 2-0. Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored a shorthanded, empty-net goal at 17:38 of the period for the final margin.
The Rangers [now 26-17-5, 57 pts] host the Buffalo Sabres Monday night at The Garden, the team’s final game before the All-Star Break.
