The Rangers won the Jimmy Vesey ‘sweepstakes’ Friday, signing the 23-year-old unrestricted free agent forward. Vesey, the 2016 Hobey Baker Award winner, had met with several teams, including the Islanders, Bruins, and Blackhawks.
Vesey was drafted by Nashville in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft, but the Predators were unable to sign him, and traded his rights to Buffalo in June. The Sabres could not reach a deal with Vesey either, and he became a free agent August 16th.
