Nash Named Alternate Captain

Rick Nash will be sporting the “A” on his sweater in 2016-17. He was named one of the team’s alternate captains Tuesday, along with Marc Staal, Dan Girardi, and Derek Stepan, behind captain Ryan McDonagh.

The Blueshirts begin their 2016-17 season Thursday night, when they host the Islanders at The Garden.

Rangers Lose Pre-Season Game to Flyers in OT, 4-3

Thoughts after Monday’s pre-season 4-3 OT loss to the Flyers in Philadelphia:

– Cheap-shot by Radko Gudas, slamming Jimmy Vesey into the boards late in the 1st period, and deservedly getting a boarding major and a game misconduct. Kudos to Dylan McIlrath for jumping into the fray and playing the enforcer.

– I should be worried that Jakub Voracek scored the game-winning goal just 27 seconds into the 3-on-3 overtime period, and made his way around the ice in the Rangers’ end so easily, with Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan and Rick Nash on the ice for the Blueshirts. But, remembering this is just pre-season, I will exhale and let it go.

Henrik Lundqvist looked sharp, in his first pre-season action; he made 15 saves in the first period.

– McDonagh saw 27+ minutes of ice time in his pre-season debut.

Adam Graves, Jimmy Vesey, and I-will-force-you-to-keep-me-on-the-roster-Coach Brandon PirriĀ scored for the Rangers.

– the Rangers are back in action Tuesday night, against the Islanders in Brooklyn.
