The Rangers scored three 1st period goals, and made it stand up, hanging on for a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes Wednesday night at The Garden. The win gave the Rangers their first three-game winning streak of the season. Henrik Lundqvist had 41 saves and recorded his 456th career win.
The Blueshirts got goals from Mika Zibanejad, back on the ice after missing 12 games, Brendan Smith, and Adam Fox.
The Hurricanes closed the gap with two goals in 89 seconds midway through the 2nd period. Ryan Dzingel scored his 5th of the season, a power play goal, at 14:29, and Warren Foegele made it 3-2 at 15:58.
Neither team scored in the 3rd period. Lundqvist made 17 saves in the period. It was his 1,000th career game as a Ranger [regular season and post-season].
Fox finished the game with a goal and an assist. Artemi Panarin had two assists, another two-point game for him.
The Rangers [now 12-9-2, 26 pts] play the Bruins in Boston Friday afternoon.
